“Many other types of solar panel can only be installed right next to one another, because plumbing connections are made above the roof,” says Martin Davies, Chariman of Viridian Solar. "Pipe connections for Clearline solar panels are made inside the building, so the panels can be installed spaced apart on the roof. With the launch of this new roofing kit, they can also be installed in a close-coupled format, so designers can choose whichever looks best for their building."
The design of the roofing kit is modelled on conventional building practice for roof penetrations, making it extremely straightforward for roofing contractors.
Unlike other solar panel systems that mount above the roof covering requiring holes to be drilled through the tiles for the pipes to get into the building, Clearline's flexible connections are passed through the roofing felt before tiling around the panel. There is no ugly pipework on display, and the panels are only 82mm thick, so do not protrude beyond many commonly used tiles. Connection by the plumbing contractor can be at a later time, from inside the building, without them needing to work at height or to disturb the work of the roofers.
