86 refurbishment projects, all across the UK, each with a common goal - to reduce the energy consumption of existing homes to a level that is only 20% of an average house built to 1990 Building Regulations.
The Retrofit for the Future project was initiated by the Technology Strategy Board in 2009 to kick start the retrofitting of the UK housing stock. Over 300 applications from design teams were whittled down in a two stage process. The successful applicants received a £150,000 grant to deliver their project. The energy performance of the houses will be monitored over a two year period, and are intended to deliver standard solutions which can be widely applied into mass retrofit programmes.
