Complementary Technologies
Solar water heating is an extremely cost-effective renewable energy source, with a comparatively high energy output per unit area of roof space. However, the energy it can supply is limited by the hot water demand in the building.
By contrast, photovoltaics (PV) is a more expensive technology but the electricity it produces is a more useful form of energy. Because any excess can be exported to the electricity grid the only limit to the energy benefit it can produce is the available roof area.
When designing buildings with higher levels of energy performance, solar heating and solar PV form an ideal partnership. Using Clearline products from Viridian Solar it is possible to combine the two technologies into a single roofing installation. |
