The £9.9m Hornsea Hub project included a complete refurbishment of the original leisure centre and the relocation of the town's Library and Children's Centre to the waterfront location. As part of the project, the Leisure Centre benefitted from a new extended café area, new changing rooms, two refurbished squash courts and a dedicated Spin and Exercise Studio. The pool area and changing rooms have been extensively refurbished.
The slate roof over the sports halls was at end of life and needed replacement, which provided East Ridings District Council with an ideal opportunity to reduce the future running costs of the facility by incorporating roof-integrated solar PV as part of the re-roofing.
Chris Hall, Director of TBS Specialist Products Ltd, the company awarded the contract for the solar installation explained more about the project:
"We completed the installation of 190 solar panels in eight days, which included time lost to North Sea gales. Given the exposed location of the project on the seafront, we chose Clearline fusion due to its exceptional resistance to wind. The client is very happy with the outcome - quality products lead to a quality installation!"
