Calculation for Solar Heat Payments Revealed

Viridian Solar welcomes the improved calculations

October 2013

Viridian Solar has welcomed the revision to the solar water heating energy calculation in the latest update to the MCS installer standards. The revision has been eagerly awaited by the solar industry because it will form the basis for the grants paid to householders installing solar heating under the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (due to launch next spring).

"The new calculation method transforms the attractiveness of the potential payments under the domestic RHI," comments Stuart Elmes, CEO of Viridian Solar, "especially for larger households that use the most water."

He continues, "The new calculation also presents the householder with the saving from their energy bill, taking the summer efficiency of the boiler into account. This is also a real improvement."

"Any MCS systems installed today can join the RHI when it begins, and also qualify for an early payment of £600 upfront, so there's never been a better time to install."

The new calculation can be used for new solar heating installations from 1st October, and must be used from 1st January onwards.
