Carbon negative new homes at St Modwen's Heathy Wood development in Copthorne
Viridian Solar announces that it has signed a Group Supply Agreement with St Modwen Homes running to 2025. St Modwen Homes will use Clearline fusion roof-integrated solar panels as its exclusive solar product for the new homes it builds where there is a requirement for solar.
With headquarters in Birmingham, St Modwen Homes sold 1,187 homes in 2021. The company emphasises its strong sustainability credentials with a stated ambition to be net zero carbon operationally by 2025 and fully net zero carbon by 2040. In April 2022, the company completed its first carbon negative homes at its Heathy Wood development in Copthorne. These affordable homes produce more energy than they consume. Improvements to the building fabric, insulation and airtightness reduce energy demand and the homes come with battery energy storage, electric vehicle charging points and a heating system comprising an air source heat pump and smart hot water cylinder. Clearline fusion solar PV panels on the roof complete the enhanced specification that results in a 56% reduction in energy bills for residents compared to the company's standard specification.
Joe Rowsell, Buyer at St Modwen Homes said:
"With our ambitious carbon reduction plan along with the new Part L building regulations coming into force we felt now was the right time to take control of the solar PV specification and ensure we get the highest quality design for our customers and ensure our logistics. The task of finding the right partner started in 2020 with the assessment of many different solar solutions. We quickly found Viridian Solar to be the number one choice for housebuilders and solar contractors for new build solar PV. With Viridian Solar now part of Marley and the Marshalls PLC group, this gave us even more confidence to move to a formal agreement and formalise the partnership."
Jamie Berryman, Chief Sales Officer at Viridian Solar said:
"Having seen many of our Clearline Fusion solar panels installed on St Modwen Homes over the last few years, we were very confident that we could add St Modwen to the #FusionFamily. The procurement team at St Modwen was extremely thorough, asking lots of questions until fully satisfied. Having a manufacturer with direct communication with was a big factor together with the product being a fully integrated one box solar solution. Clearly working with a house builder with the reputation of St Modwen elevates our position further in the new build housing market for solar, and we look forward to a successful partnership."
